Vancouver Island Boxing 2014



The lead photo is in the middle of
years 1954 and 1994 which are
two significant years along the
Vancouver Island boxing highway.
The November 1974 photo was by
Jim Ryan for a Patty Pitts article on
the revival of boxing in Victoria, but
does mention the Nanaimo revival of
the year 1971.

Some of the initial photos include the likes of Bert Wilkinson, George Shiels, Dale Walters,
and Mickey Griffin, Gary Wood, and
Mike Caird.  Then we have a Donnie Orr, 
Mike Lazare, Joe Preston, Fred Wicks jr.
and Barry Creswell. And, closes with a group
picture of George Nepper and four boxers of
Nanaimo's Newcastle Boxing Club. What 
follows are a selection of images ofvfaces and names.

The Nanaimo revival took place in 1971, the four
Key players were co-founders Dan Wright and
Brian Zelley with assistance from George Nepper
